Check out the Packaging Campaign Survey PDF Print E-mail
Thanks to all of you who have taken the Packaging Campaign survey so far! The results have been very informative and interesting and have sparked some great conversations here at the Dogwood HQ.

Your input is invaluable, so we’ve decided to keep the survey open for one more week in order to incorporate more of the responses from our member groups, online community, major donors, campaign partners and other Dogwood Alliance friends into the final results. If you haven’t done so then now’s your chance to take the survey yourself.

So far, here is a general sense of what we’ve seen from the Packaging campaign Survey.

When you think of Dogwood Alliance…
…first and foremost people think of Protecting Endangered forests, and secondly s sustainable forestry. We do that by holding corporations accountable and solving the Packaging Problem.
When you think of paper packaging…
Clearcut forests for paper comes to mind for a lot of people. Secondly landfill waste is what people think of when it comes to packaging, which is not surprising since nearly 50% of landfill waste is paper and wood products.

We also weren’t too surprised to find out that not many people think of packaging as serving an essential function. Most of the packaging used today is for branding and sales, which can easily be changed if corporations buying paper packaging from our forests simply made the decision to change.

Which sector is the worst when it comes to packaging?
Over the last 8 months we’ve out the spotlight on a few different industries that are using packaging for their products that is coming from endangered Southern forests.

Of those different sectors the majority of people that the fast food sector best represents the Packaging problem. This includes fast food giant Yum! Brands, parent company KFC, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Long John Silvers, and others.

Other sectors like Health and Beauty, Music, and video games were not all that far behind. What this tells us is that overall, all excessive packaging is a problem.

Next, we asked you to rank each of our potential target companies. Who do you think is the worst?
Again, fast food giant Yum! Brands with fast food packaing is identified as one of the most egregious packaging offendors. In the health and beauty sector, Proctor & Gamble, took the most “worst of” votes, while Revlon and Unilever were neck in neck…

In the music industry, Sony Music took the “worst of” title over Universal, but only by 3%.

For the last packaging campaign question we asked how concerned you are since Dogwood Alliance launched the packaging campaign in January. Not surprisingly, 96% of you are more concerned.

So are we, that’s why now is the time to act.

You told us that most of you would get involved in some way, from signing a petition to getting your friends involved. We are looking forward to your involvement, in whatever capacity, as we move forward to the next steps in the packaging campaign world.

We are excited to incorporate your ideas into our campaign team discussions, it means a lot to know what our grassroots base and online community have been thinking and doing about the packaging problem.

Again, if you haven’t taken the survey it’s not too late. When the polls are closed next week, if you’d like to see more specific and detailed results just send me an email and I’d be happy to share those with you.

Stay tuned for the next steps in the Packaging campaign world…

the best way to save our forests for the future of our children is recycling all the pssible material we can. Start now, it is never too late to start a good project.
