Dogwood Alliance supports the efforts of people, communities, organizations and networks across the region work to practice and promote sustainable forestry. The Southern Forest Network is one of our main partners on this front.
The Southern Forests Network brings together people across the South who are committed to conserving private forest lands, practicing and supporting sustainable forestry, and cultivating sustainable forest-based economies. SFN participants include forestry and farming organizations, foresters, research facilities, conservation groups, loggers, universities, sawmills, landowners, and extension agencies.
We are organizing to:
- Promote the conservation and sustainable management of private forest lands in the South.
- Provide landowners with the information and support they need to conserve their forest lands and manage them sustainably.
- Support foresters, loggers, harvesters, and others who are practicing good forestry and low-impact harvesting.
- Support local value-added processing that creates good jobs and keeps the profits from forest harvests in local communities.
- Promote state and federal policy that supports the conservation and sustainable management of forests.
SFN organizes through several active working groups and holds two meetings each year. SFN membership is free, and there are many ways to get involved-
