Rising Up with Richmond County

Richmond County, NC needs your help right now to stop a biomass wood pellet facility.

50 acres of forests a day in North and South Carolina would be turned into pellets and then shipped to Europe to burn for electricity. The health and economic impacts would be devastating, and the community doesn’t want it.

Richmond County needs your voice right now. Take action!

In 2016 Richmond County was ranked 90 out of 100 counties in the State of North Carolina for health outcomes.

The NC Department of Environmental Quality issued permits to Enviva, the biomass company proposing the facility, that contained false information regarding the plant’s location and violated air quality regulations, yet no public hearing was ever held.

Citizens were denied a voice in the decision. Big biomass is environmental injustice.

Enviva, the world’s largest exporter of wood pellets, threatens the livelihoods of communities, forests, and the climate. Enviva is proposing to build their fourth wood pellet biomass facility in Richmond County.

You can help stop this facility.

Now is our chance to stop them. Tell our officials that they must protect communities and stop giving handouts to corporations like Enviva.

We will be delivering signatures to Governor Roy Cooper in mid-July. Sign the petition. Rise up with Richmond County!

So true about Enviva. They continually mis-manage their plant near homes in Ahoskie and spew dust in the air and into our lungs, on our vehicles and on our homes. The state of NC does nothing. I have had employees tell me that Enviva constantly pushes repair of air emissions equipment out so they can keep the plant running but they do so out of compliance and at the risk of the community. When will the state stop allowing this? When will the truth about this big money, irresponsible polluter be exposed?
