Let’s Stop Failing North Carolina’s Environmental Justice Communities

In the middle of a global pandemic and despite fierce public opposition, the North Carolina Department of Air Quality (NC DAQ) recently issued a permit for a bio-coal wood pellet production facility in Robeson County. This majority Black, Indigenous, and people of color community is ranked worst in the state for health outcomes, considered economically distressed or Tier 1, and is still struggling to recover from the disastrous effects of Hurricanes Matthew and Florence.

NC DAQ is rubber-stamping the destruction of critical green infrastructure for a community dealing with the compounded effects of COVID-19, the climate crisis, and institutionally racist policies.

We expect more from our leaders.

Send a message to your local North Carolina state representative to ask them what they plan to do to ensure we never fail Robeson County or other North Carolina communities again.

Don’t forget to personalize your comment. This action is only open to NC residents.
