Tell VA DEQ: Protect our Forests and our Health

The wood pellet industry is a disaster for our forests, climate, and communities. Every year, Enviva — the world’s largest wood pellet manufacturer — destroys tens of thousands of acres of forests, grinds them into wood pellets, and ships them overseas to be burned for electricity.

Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VA DEQ) is currently considering a draft permit for Enviva to increase production to 781,000 tons of wood pellets per year. This means nearly 19,000 acres of forests logged each year to feed this plant.

Furthermore, this expansion request comes amidst revelations of years-long violations of the Clean Air Act, and attempts by the industry to cover this up.

Enviva’s proposed expansion will mean more logging, more pollution, and more carbon emissions. We must take a stand against dirty biomass.

Send a public comment to Virginia Department of Air Quality — Protect our forests and health. Deny Enviva’s expansion.
