North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper’s administration released the NC Clean Energy Plan, which delivers harsh criticism of the wood pellet industry and makes clear that there is no place for biomass in our state’s clean energy future. But now, the Cooper administration must turn their stance on biomass into real, immediate action. Lip service to climate action is not enough. Days after the release of the Clean Energy Plan, Cooper’s Department of Environmental Quality approved yet another massive expansion at one of Enviva’s wood pellet production mills. If there’s no place for biomass as part of NC’s Clean Energy Future, then why are we allowing Enviva to get away with wholesale destruction of our precious forests for overseas demand?
Call Governor Cooper’s office today in support of a moratorium on the expansion of the wood pellet industry. Afterwards, please let us know you made the call.

Hi, my name is ______ and I live in [LOCATION], North Carolina. I’m calling because I want to thank Governor Cooper for the North Carolina’s newly released Clean Energy Plan, which rightly says that biomass should have no place in our state’s clean energy future. Unfortunately, North Carolina’s forests, communities and climate are still under attack. Time and again, this administration has allowed Enviva’s wood pellet production facilities to expand. It’s time for the Cooper administration to pull the brakes on this destructive industry. I urge Governor Cooper to put a moratorium on the expansion of the wood pellet industry, until the full cumulative impacts of the industry can be assessed!
