EPN addresses the scale of the challenges and opportunities for social justice and conservation presented by the expanding forest, pulp and paper industry. Once gain it was a pleasure to be among committed activists working to advance a common vision to transform the pulp and paper industry into a more environmentally and socially responsible force across the planet.
I attended the Innovation Forum’s Washington, DC conference on “How businesses can tackle deforestation.” In the midst of all the great discussions, I noticed the deforestation associated with industrial forestry in the Southern US, our own backyard, didn’t get the air time it deserves.
Last week, Andrew presented at the GreenBlue Value Innovation Work Session on Forest Certification. The event focused on the changing needs in the certified forest products industry and identified the most valuable elements of forest certification while elevating strategies to deliver that value to forest products companies and large customers.
So the more things change here at Dogwood, the more things stay the same. We are continuing our campaign, our mission, our heart’s work, to protect Southern forests by transforming the pulp and paper industry. With your support over the years, we have found new and better ways to achieve our shared objectives.
Recently, I was fortunate to be asked to speak in a live panel interview at the ASTC world conference about my youth activist experiences. ASTC has been around for 40 years. Everyone I met was highly educated especially in science. I was very nervous, but it was incredible to share my experiences with others and to learn from others too. I spoke at Raleigh, NC Science museum. Everyone was so thoughtful and interested in saving our planet in one way or another. It was inspiring! I learned if you truly believe in something, speak out so others hear you and get inspired to help save our planet too.
