Governor Cooper, Honor Your Promise!

When Governor Cooper issued Executive Order 80, he committed to fight climate change and transition North Carolina to a clean energy economy. And the Governor’s recent Executive Order on COVID-19 requires NC DEQ to take environmental justice considerations into current and future policies and procedures. Yet despite overwhelming opposition, NC DEQ recently approved another permit for a polluting wood pellet facility in a predominantly BIPOC community.

By allowing this facility to proceed, NC DEQ is rubber-stamping the destruction of critical green infrastructure at a time when the residents of Robeson County face the compounded pandemics of COVID-19, climate change, and institutionally racist policies.

Tweet Governor Cooper and urge him to honor his promise and commit to creating green jobs for a healthy future.
